The arid Southwest is one of the
least known and most fascinating re-
gions in the United States. and the
country along the lower course of
Gila River in Arliona is perhaps the
most alluring part: of that region.
It is a land of rocky mountain ranges
that are partly buried in their own
debris: a sandy decal. yet a haul of
majestic if desolate beauty, when)
the sunsets have a gorgeous splen-
dor that is unknown in more humid
regions and when: a. tourist may ilnd
the health that is elsewhere denied
him. Much of its vegetation is
weird and unfamiliar to its visitors.
and some or its animals are. rare or
unknoun elsewhere The white-tall-
cd deer and the Rocky Mountain
sheep are occasionally seen from
afar. and glimpses are. caught now
and then of their enemies, the noun.
