ment relative to arms shipments
from the United States. which speaks
of the possible use of four armored
cruisers "which it is virtually certain
the federal government will secure
from the United States."
After asserting 5.000 rifles already
have been rr-Ceived from north of the
Rio Grandc. it was added that 10.000
more. with adequate ammunition.

ments made by Mexico officials that
an arrangement is being made to
procure four cruisers for the Ohm-
gen government for use against Mex-
ican revolutionists along the sea-
coast created surprise here.
The authorized statement was
made at the State Department Mon-
day that tho \Vashington naval
treaty specifically forbade the United
States and other treaty powers from
selling war vessels to any govern-
ment.
The treaty would not prevent the
construction by American shipbuild-
ing concerns of war craft for Mexl-
co, but if such contracts were made
the Washington government would
be required under the treaty to ro-
port the fact and specifications as to
the ships to the other powers signs.-
