yesterday.

Copies will be forwarded to the
United States Marshall to stay the
arrest.
The report of Attorney-General
Daugherty. containing the recom-
mendation for remission and his
scathing denunciation of Craig.
marked “approved" by the President
December 3. will remain a part of
the court record.
Sentiment that the case be rc~
opened and a complete pardon given
to Craig was even more pronounced
than ever.

"Whereas. Charles L. Craig was
charged in the United States District
Court for the Southern District of
New York with contempt of court.
and after trial before Honorable Ju-
lius M. Mayer was adjudged guilty.
and on February 24. 1921. was sen-
tenced to imprisonment. for sixty days
in the Essex County Jail. Newark.

Martin I". Manton. at that time a
United States District Judge. for dis-
charge on a. Writ of imbued corpus.
which petition was granted by Judge
Mnnton April 29. 1921: and
“Whereas an appeal was taken to
the United States'Circult Court of
Appeals. Second Circuit. which court
on May 22. 1922. reversed the order
of Judge Mouton: and
“Whereas the Supreme Court of
the United States. on November 19.
1923. affirmed the decision of the
Circuit Court of Appeals. thereby
sustaining the Jurisdiction of Judge
Mayer;
"Now, therefore. be it known that
I. Calvin Coolidge. President of the
United States of America. in consid-
eration of the premises. divers good
and sufllcient reasons thereunto mov-
ing me. do hereby remit the im-
prisonment imposed by the said sen—
tence.
