be evident that the immediate cause
of most Canadian discontent is- the
WINNIPAUK
FEED STORE
closing of the American 'ma'rket
which came into effect with the
Fordncy McCum’ber tariff. and
which practically prohibited imports
from Canada of fish, cattle and a
long list of agricultural and other
natrual products. There was little
outcry from Cannada when this ta-
riff camo into effect. nor Las there
been since. though what it would ac-
complish was always plainly recog-
nlzablc.
But one does not no d to travel
far to discover feelings much deep-
er than find public expression. The
issue is not confused. The farmer
who can not sell his cattle and the
fisherman who cannot sell his fish
know who is responsible and how.
He knows the market on which his
former business and prosperity was
built and he knows when and how
it was cut off. .
Called “Unfriendly Act.” .
Some Canadians, perhaps an in-V
creasing number, describe the Ford-
nck- McCumber tariff as an “un-
friendly act, " a wanton destruction
