Drive for Members
Tho People's chorus held its first
meeting of the season last evening
in the high school auditorium. Plans
for the coming season were discus-
sed and it was voted to conduct a
membership drive during the month

Divided into two groups. at be

by Mrs. Moulthrop and the latter

The regular meeting of the Trim-
ty Musical and Dramatic Guild was
held last evening in the parish hull
at eight o'cl¢k. There was a. large
attendance. chornl important busi-
ness mutton wet-1‘ discussed. It was
decided that 1 contest play be given
some time in October. The manner
this is to be done is that
be given on the same even-
ing. one with a cast of girls and the
other with a. cast of boys. A tow
of the inembcr of the, parish will
lm called on to Judge which play is
presented the best. The side that
losses will lmvo to give a supper to
the winners. A great deal of inter-
est is being shown in this contest.
The names of the play, selectrvi
are "An Uninvited Member" and "A
Convention of Papal". Plans for a

members of the parish on October 31
were also discussed.

TO THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES
An overwhelming disaster has overtaken the people
of the friendly nation of Japan. ‘ While its extent has
not as yet been officially reported, enough is known to j'us.
tify the statement that the cities of Tokio and Yokohama
and surrounding towns and villages have been largely if
not completely destroyed by earthquake, fire a n d flood,
with a resultant appalling ‘loss of life and destitution and
distress, requiring measures of urgent relief.
Such assistance as is within the means of the Executive
Department of the Government will be rendered; but rea-
lizing the great suffering which now needs relief and will
need relief for days to come, I am prompted to appeal urg-
ently to the American-people whose sympathies have al-
ways been so comprehensive to constitute in aiding the un-
fortunate and in. giving relief to‘ the people of Japan.
In order that the utmost c o-ordination a n 11 effective-
ness in the administration of the relief funds be obtained.I
recommend that all. contributions, clearly designated, be
sent to the chairman of the American National Red (‘ross
at Washington or to any of the local RedgCross chapters for
transmission to Japan. '
