lowing letter to John Hays Hem-
mond, chairman of the United States
Coal Commission:
“Dear Sir:
"The Mine Worker’s representa-
tives have given careful considera-
tion to the letter filed with your
honorable commission by Mr. iVer-
riner. “'e do not believe that the
communication constitutes a good
faith acceptance of the proposal
made by the Mine W'orkers yester-
day_for the abandonment of the
prei'ent check of! system by the eit-
threclto operators and the waiving
of the check of! demands by the
United Mine “‘orkcrs.
“The first paragraph of Mr. “'er-
riner's letter expressed gratification
that lhe mine workers have aban-
doned Demand No. l. The mine
workers made no such offer. as
their letter referred only to the
check off feature of Demand No. l.
The npcrators' statement on this
feature is therefore in error.
