nounced today that he was satisfied
he has jurisdiction to hear argu-
ments on the motion of issue N.
Mills. counsel for “"alter S. “'ard.
indicted for the murder of Clarence
Peters. for permission to inspect the
minutes of the Grand Jury which re-
turned the indictment. lie set next
Monday as the date for the argu-
ments.
Thomas J. O’Neill. representing
Attorney General Carl Sherman. said
he intended to oppose the motion for
several reasons. particularly. he d..-
clared. because the wire. rather Jud
brother of the defendant. as well as
two maids formerly employed in il’l:
Ward household. and who were
wanted as witnesses. had been sent
out of the State.
had been removed by representativrs .
of th \\'ards .and that one family
had been sent to Europe at the n;-
pense of a member of the‘ “’ard
family. \Vlmn Justice Seeger asked
him for proof of his charges. .‘Jr
O'Neill said he would submit proof
in the form of affidavits at the hear-
