NE\V YOYRK, July 27.-——Assistant
District Attorney Kill-0e led the “li-
legal and unwarranted” raid on the
apartment of George Maxwell, music
publisher.
Allan A. Ryan. the financier, who
seemingly had unrestricted use of the
facilities of the prosocuutor's office in
his personal pursuit o! Maxwell. was
in the raiding party. it is believed.
These facts “ere disclosed today in
the reading of the minutes of the
Grand Jury that indicted Maxwell as
the "poison pen" author.
The raid took place on March 24.
late in the afternoon. while Maxwell,
then under lucrtigation was in Europe.

Ryan figured, and a piece of lingerie.
which. ltyan told the Grand Jury, be-
longed to Mrs. Ryan. These were tak-
en without warrant of law by the
illegal and wrongful use. of the power
of the District Attorney to ebllgc
Ryan.
The circumstances leading up to this
illegal raid. which was only accom-
plished after Mrs. Elizabeth Hodierne.
the housekeeper. had been intimidated
by Kilroe. are set forth in the minutes.
Because she refused to admit. mail-
ing a letter which she did not mail,
she testified. Kilroc went before Judge
Talley and asked that she. be committ-
ed as a. material witness unless she
could furnish the excessive ball of

She could not get ball on a mom-
ent‘s notice, so she spent the night in
a cell.
