Check Trick Worked

A young man entered Byrant and
Reese‘s clothing store on Min street.
First District Tuesday and purchased
a suit of clothes costing 825 and a
cap costing 82 more and tendered a
check for $30 in payment.
The check was drawn on the Na-
tional Bank of Norwalk and signed
by John Lynch. He received his 83
change and stated that he would
leave thcclothes there until yesterday
morning. The check was later found
to be worthless.
The \oung man was described as
being 25 years of age. five teet six
inches tall and weighing about 150
pounds.

PARIS. July 18.—-—The secret of
Stradivarius is believed to have
been found by M. Luc Galicsnne.
who recently unearthed an Italian
manuscript in the Blblothequo Ha-
tionale. It is dated 1716 and undoubt-
edly comes from Home. It contains
the formula {or the preservation of
the vibrant qualities of wood.
According to the manuscript the fa.-
mous Cremona varnish has not a base
of soft resin, as was always supposed.
Resinous umber dissolved in olive oil
wa used and not the ordinary soft res-
ins dissolved in alcohol with which
modern violins are usually coated.
The manuscript is also vsulablc
because of a formation for dissolving
hard resin which chemists have been
unable to discover.
A new canal recently built in Hob
land, about 42 miles long. eight feet
deep and 11. surface width of 71 feet.

000. connects Zuid-Vi'illems canal with
Gcertruidcnberg.
