anese Tea Garden on the roof. Mr.
Herman has decorated the club in
fine manner. and has hung Japanese
lanterns over the premises. and also
put u streamers of red. white and
blue paper. Steward Herman will
make a. specialty of servi'g tea in the
afternoons. He also has introduced
light lunches on his counter pro-
gram, which were served on Satur-
day.

The heat and humidity of yesterday
brought thousands to the Point. in
addition to the excursions. The Ceph-
eus docked shortly after noon with
1.400 members of the Curtis High
school of Staten Island. The lads
from the Curtis school proved to be
one of ‘the nicest organisations ever
at the park. They rented the danc-
ing hall for the afternoon.
Vito’s Dixieland Five furnished mu-
sic for dancing. In (ddition to this
excursion. 1.100 members of the Luth-
eran Church league. New York. came
to the park on the Sirius.

Mrs. Mary Crawford, the Sentinel ’s correspondent in
Westport, will be pleased to receive all items of social interest
in Westport and nearby territory.
The regular meeting of the Board
of Finance will take place Friday eve-
ning. There are a number of impor-
tant matters to come before the board.
One is the appropriation of “.000 to
buy 30,000 gallons of oil to use on the
roads in and about Westport. It is
reported that this appropriation is op-
posed by the board. Not to oil the
roads is considered bad policy by the
eelcctmen. as the oil bar-dens the sur-
face. the saving in repairs being more
than the cost of the oil and at the
same time ”laying the dust and mak-
ing traveling more desirable. The lay-
ing of cement between the rails of
the Connecticut companys tracks from
the Minute Alan to Bridge street will
come up also. A town meeting will
be called as soon after Friday as is
possible. probably for the evening of
July ith.
