thodist Episcopal church held a meet-
ing Thursday evening at the home of
Miss Mabel Ramond on the Post
road. The resignations of Miss Julie
Sherer as treasurer of the club was
neccpted and Miss Mabel Raymond
was elected in her stead. It was
voted to have a strawberry festival
on the'lawn of the; church. No defi-
nite date was decided upon. but it
will probably be within the next two
or three weeks.

A three ton Mack truck owned by
the Tydol company of Stamford.
crashed into a telegraph pole at the
corner of Mansfield and Prospect
avenues on Thursday evening. The
steering whel of the truck snapped
and the truck ran head on into the
pole, doing considerable damage to it
and pushing the driver's seat into the
rear of the truck. At first it was
thought to be another “mystery" case
when the driver could not be found.
but it was ascertained later that the
driver. who was John Kelly of Stam-
ford, was hurt and taken to the
Stamford hospital by a. passing auto-
ist. The truck was towed to the Depot
garage. where repairs are being made.

On Memorial Day a woman visitor
of Compo Beach who was wearing
shoes with French heels, caught one
of her shoe heels in a crack between
the boards in front of the main pavil-
ion. causing her considerable annoy-
ance. The shoe had to be unfuteaed.
her foot removed from the shoe. and
a board pried up in order to release
the shoe. That there may not be a
re-occurance of such an accident. the
carpenters have been busy tearing up
the boards in the walks. and laying
them closer together.

Stark. Superintendent of Schools of
Hackensack. N. J.. was last. night ap-
pointed to the post of Superintendent
of Stamford schools.
The appointment came after a
three-hour session of the Scho’ol Com-
mittee during which various members
of the body battled back and _forth
over the appointment. exhaustively
discussed every phase of the question
and. after repeatedly voting 4 to 4.
came to a decision when Chairman
\Vatson E. Rice threw in his vote.
making the ballots 5 to 4 in favor of
Mr. Stark. .
Oscar L. Burdick. Acting Superin~
tendent of Schools. for whom the pub-
lic has clamored the last year. was
appointed to the post of Assistant Su-
perintendent at a salary of 84.000.
Earlier in the evening. a host of cit-
izens at the public session held in
the city court room spoke in favor of
Mr. Burdick for the appointment. Sen-
ator Matthew A. Keanll’y was among
those who pleaded with the school
committee to appoint Mr. Burdick to
the position. Others were: Justice A.
all of whom spoke impamionately in
Mr. Burdick's behalf.
Mr. Stark is now on the unofllcial
list of the teaching star! of Colnmbh
University and this Summer. prior to ‘
his coming to Stamford. will give
courses there on school administration.
