Speaking on the topic “The Spirit
of Kiwanis" at the luncheon at the
Norwaik Country club yesterday
noon, Rev. W'illiam Huddlestone Al-
len. pastor of the Liberty street
Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ) of Danbury. give what might
be called a "sequel message" to his
talk given here about a year ago,
when he attended a. Kiwanis luncheon
with members of the “Booster's
Club" of Danbury.
"Bigger and better" is a motto that
is adopted by Kiwanis clubs. but if
you mean that this building is in the
purely material sense, sou are build-
ing on the shadows." Iev. Mr. Al-
len said. “You. as Kiwanians. or Ki-
waniacs. if you prefer that term.
should be interested. as I hachno
doubt you arc. in the work for the
higher mental. moral and spiritual
welfare or the city. state and nation.
as well as the whole world. That is
the type of 'bigger and better' build-
ing that you. as Kiwanians should re-
fer to. The high ideals of this or-
ganisation cannot be matched with
anything less than this ambition of
service and leilowship to the unseen
as well as to the material.”
Speaking on “fellowship." Rev. Mr.
Alien compared each _Kiwanis club
to a wagon wheel. with the hub as
the center of gravity. its essential
spirit. The officers and leaders were
the spokes that radiated. and the
rim was the general membership. It
is only by all of these parts working
as an unit that a wheel is worth any-
thing and the same is true of a Kl-
wanis club. The community spirit
shduld be the hub of the Kiwanis
wheel of fellowship.

until the pastor of the church. who
was cndeavoring to do his best to aid
the community in general as well as
his flock. becomes discouraged. This
should not be. Rev. Mr. Allen said.
A Kiwanian should extend the help-
ing hand of fellowship to all. and
should not allow a man's work to
pass unnoticed. or accepted as amat-
ter of course, when it is possible to
aid a man to "buck up" by a word or
praise honestly meant. or a bit of
ed. good fellowship.
‘ In closing his remarks. Rev. Mr.
Allen made a personal appeal to each
member, as a “spoke." or as a com~
poncnt of the "rim" of the Kiwanis
"wheel" to do his part in aiding the
development of character. ability and
opportunity.
At the conclusion of Rev. Mr. Al-
len's talk. President Arthur C. Vt’heel—
er said that he heartily endorsed his
remarks and that he hoped to see the
local club unite in anIeffort to build
character and that each and every
member would do his part to live up
to the principles on which Kiwanis
was founded.

ago. who called attention to "Bundle
Day" which will he observed hero on
\iay 24 when bundles will be col-
lected for the Near East Relief. These
bundles are to consist of clothing of
