Norwalk Hospital
“'hcn a corporation addresses
a communication to its stock-
holders it. is always careful 'to
speak of the corporation as “your
company." ’ Every stockholder,
large or small. is given the sense
of proprietorship. In the same
way when the Norwalk General
Hospital addresses the public con—
coming the institution. it may
well say “your hospital.”
The Hospital belongs to the peo-
pic. The people’s money founded
it. The people’s interest has fos—
icrod it all through the years.
The people have helped to sup-
port it. The people have paid its
debts and kept its doors open. It
is run by the trustees of the peo-
pic for the benefit of the sick.
Anyone may have a part in the
management of the Hospital by
becoming a member of the Nor-
waik Hospital Association, by at-
tending the meetings of the Asso-
ciation and by participating in the
election of the Board of Directors
who are the trustees of the public
in the management of the Hospio
tal.
The Norwalk Hospital is a pub
he as opposed to a private in-
stitution. it is not run for profit.
It is not city controlled. It is con-
trolled by no one but the people,
acting through their representa-
tives, the Board of Directors.
With the reorganization of the
Staff and the management to
raise the standards of the institu-
tion so that we might receive the
approval of the American College
of Surgeons. An important fea-
ture of the new arrangement is a
monthly conference of a commits
tec from the Stafi with the Exe-
cutive Committee of the Board.
From this many; helpful sugges-
tions have come, but the under-
standing among all parties is that
the responsibility for management
rests with the Board of Directors
as trustees of the people.
\Vc have entered into this phase
of the Hospital to emphasize the
point that this is the people’s in-
stitution, that it is the people's
institution which is to have “open
louse ” on Saturday in celebration
of National Hospital Day, and
that the people are asked to come
and see how their institution is
being conducted. Any suggestion
that will help the Hospital to give
better service to its patients will
be gratefully received.
The Nor-walk Hospital desires
the interest and good will of all
the people. Often misunderstand-
ings arise and hard feelings after-
wards develop over comparatively
trivial matters that might easily
have been adjusted at the time.
If you should hear anything at
any time about the Hospital'thst
seems to you to be inconsistent
with what the purpose and spirit
of such an institution should be,
may We ask‘ that you do not
accept it as a’ fact. until you have
given the oflicers of tha_Hospital

Greenwich Post Road
News that the Borough of
Greenwich has at last taken action
to repair the stretch of road be-
tween the New York State line
and the town willJie received with
joy by all. .
This piece of the Post Road, in
the lamentable condition that it a
was, has been a disgrace to the
people of this part. of Connecti-
cut. No one could enter the State
via the Post Road without saying
or at least thinking unprintablc
remarks. ,
There have been various reasons
not forth to explain the continued
delay in rebuilding the road. l
