of cutting in these three states. with-
out replanting and with forest fire
loss at "normal” or about what it
was last year. the coast standing tim-
ber supply will be exhauseted in a-
lumber.
Fonr million acres of timberland in
Oregon and one-third of \‘Vashington‘s
original timber area have already
.been destroyed by tire. and therefore
will never aid in the upbuilding or
those states. About 30 per cent of
the original Douglas tire area of Ore-
gon and Washington has been des-
troyed by forest tires. Douglas fir
is one of the best lumber trees grown
in urging that burned over areas re-
planted with trees to ripen into me-
turity for coming generations. Fires
