The William H. Taylor estate claims
88.000 damages from the State of
Connecticut for the laying of the new
roadbed on their property. The State
refuses to consider settlement of this
claim as the law requires that where
the state shares the expense of a new
road with the town. the town must
acquire the right of way. The town.
through the selectmen. have offered
81.500 for the right of way over the
Taylor estate. The selectmen having
forbidden the contractor to lay the
road until the business of the right
of way was concluded. and the con-
tractor having disobeyed this injunc-
tion. it is believed the contractor. and
not the town. can be held responsible
for damages.
