Four of the scouts last week bought
the new regulation scout hatchet.
They all declared that it is one of the
best pieces of equipment that Head-
quarters has adopted lately, although
the Winchester knife is another very
excellent piece of equipment. The
training with a knife and hatchet is a
preliminary step of preparation for
the hikes the troop hopes to have this
coming spring and summer.
Our work getting ready for some .of
the lnter-troap challenges which are
now proving so popular has been
somewhat held up the last two weeks
because some of the scouts have not
remembered to bring their ropes. It
is hoped that every scout will put in
an appearance Friday night with his
coll so that we may get into the
game. ‘ '
Our troop has also organiseda bass

of a joyous nature. the other being
the reverse. The former was in the
form of a Mr. Lane. a grizzled old
seaman. as it wure. who came with
the idea of showing us "tenderfcei"

away with the knowledge that the
scouts knew a thing or two about
knots themselves.
Mr. Lane showed ’us the method of
making an eye splice and the differ-
ent methods of 'whipping' a rope and
gave an interesting talk on knots.
The latter surprise was in the form
of Scout-master Leemhius' absence
owing to illness. This absence was an
interruption to series of perfect at-
tendance.
To show their appreciation of Scout-
master'Leemhius’ faithfulness. the
scouts gave him. as a token of good.
fellowship. a five huiidred foot spot-
light which. so to speak. hit him in
the rightaspot.
