Following the marriage of Princess

ond of the royal princesses of Europe
to iollow the after-war tendency of
refusing royal marriegds for reasons
of state and of marrying purely for
love. Previous to her engagement

In addition there were present the
diplomatic corps. members of the
government. senate. chamber and all
of-the richest. historic families of the
Italian aristocracy and nobility.
Premier Mussolini himself acted as.
clvii‘notary on behalf of the house of
Savoy. drawing up and authenticating
the certificate of marriage.
The ceremony marked another im-
portant step forward in resumption
of friendly relations between the
Vatican and the Qulrinal and the
healing of the half century breach.
For the marriage today of Princ-
ess Yolanda the pope by special dia-
pensation removed the ban from the
Paolina chapel and the latter was
opened for a religious ceremony for
the first time in 64 years. The re-
ligious marriage was also performed
by a Catholic prelate with the full
consent of Pope Plus.
The bride is 22 years of age and
the groom is 36. By marriage Princ-
ess Yolanda comes down in rank to
Countess of Bergolo. To oflset this.
King Victor originally planned to
confer on Count of Bergolo the title
and rank of Duke of Segno. Tile.
howevcr. Yolanda has steadily op-
posed declaring she wishes merely to
rank as Countess of Bergolo.
Yolanda. who takes much after her
Montenegrian mother. is a noted
hbrsewoman and huntress. Captain on
