avenue, New Rochelle. N. Y.. engin-
eer oi? the work train which struck
and fatally injured, Frank Snyder, 01'
Port Chester. N. Y. Saturday morn-
ing. was completely exonerated by
Coroner John J. Phclan at a. hear-
ing; held at 2 o’clock yesterday at—
tornOon in the Town hall.
The accident occurred at 10:15
Saturday morning, on the Elm street
viaduct. Snyder died two hours lat-
or in Stamford hospital from a frac-
tured skull.
Testimony given at the hearing by
several linemen employed in the
same section gang ‘witll Snyder was
to the efl'eet that. they didn't hear the
approach or the work train. This
testimony was offset. by Engineer
Lucy and Fireman Robert O'Brien.
who both swore under oath that the
whistle 01’ inc engine was blowing
continually from the time they first
sighted Snyder on the tracks until it
struck him.
In his testimony Lacy declared
that he first. saw Snyder standing in
thi- trar‘ks. He denied that Snyder
was in a kin-cling position when he
first sighted illm. Others had previ-
ously lt‘slllll‘ll to .this effect. Lacy

swing only twenty miles an hour
