Thousands of dollars will accrue
to the State of Connecticut for con-
struction of new highways if the pro-
posed bill for enforcing payment of
automobile taxes is adopted bv the
(.eneral Asembly. The measure.
which has the support of State Tax
(.ommissioner \V'illiam ll. Blodgett
and Commissioner of Motor Vehicles
Robbins ll. Stoeckels. will be the
subject of discussion at a. hrarlng be—
fore the Legislative Committee on
Alliance at 1:30 Thursday afternoon
in the State Capitol. Tax Collector
Melvin It. Murquand. and one mem-
ber of the Board of Assessors will
appear before the committee in sup-
port of the measure.
The bill provides that the owner
of an automobile must show a. receipt
for the taxes on his car before he
can obtain his license. He will be
obliged to forward the tax receipt to
the office of the Motor Vehicle ‘Com'
mlssioner.
The object of the measure is to
prevent automobile owners from
dodging the tax ~on their cars. a
condition widely prevalent in the
past few years. The hoard of As-
sessors yesterday received a. com-
munication from State Tax (‘ominis-
sinner I‘dodgrtt. outliniut: the pur-
poses of the bill and presenting a. di~
rest of its contents. with the accom-
panying request that a member of
the board appear at the hearing in
Hartford to support the measure. 'l‘ax
