Coal From Stone
A Munich chemist named I’rucckner is credited with having
pl‘otlllt't‘tl a “synthetic coal” from stone. It. might be remarked
that. a good many American coal dealers this winter seem to be
producing: stone from coal, but let that pass. The German claim
seems perfectly serious. and the scientific marvel is vouched for by
a correspondent of the New York Herald.
Ala-cording to the correspondent, the artificial coal is a fine
grade of anthracite, producing as much heat as the best American
h-ird coal and producing also a good quality of gas and c0kc.
