Acad- M ‘ The annual meeting and election of directors and officers of the New Can- .aanbranch cf fish and Game League of Southwestern Connecticut was held in the Court room of the ToWn Hall. on Monday evening. There were about thirty members present to discuss the matter of protecting the game birds the past two years the local branch has been one of the most active or- ganizations in this work of any in the state. The reports as presented showed the league in New Canaan to be in a. flourishing condition. with a membership of nearly two hundred. The past season there were fifteen cans of trout put in local streams which had been fished out. The board season did all in their power to see that undersized fish were not caught. but when caught keeping undersized fish as in some instances parties were fOund. doing. the lea‘gue did not have the staunch backing that they should have had by the local justices in New Canaan. In every case when a. party was apprehended and brought into court they were dismissed with the lowest possible fine upon promising not to do it again. An effort will be made this year to see that the law is more stringently enforced in New Can- aan and vicinity. The greatest enemy of the speckled trout is the common water snake. which has been aTlOwed to live practically 'unmolested. in as much as they are not at. all polsonus if they should happen to bite. These the small trout. and have been known to capture trout seven inches in length. Last season one of the local directors of the league discovered one in belly of a. water snake measuring nearly six inches. A committee of three. canals- ting of Theron Lyon, Chas. L.
