While Norwalk is faced with the
greatest coal shortage in the history of
the city. a Red Star Line barge No. 20.
loaded with anthracite coal sunk Sat-
urday night? in the upper Norwnlk
river. The barge was consigned to the
Bishop 8: Lynes Coal Company.
The barge was brought up the
Norwalk river during the afternoon.
and in smashingthrough the heavy
ice which covered the river. the bow
of the vessel was stove in. The barge
was tied to the Bishop & Lynes Com-
pany's dock ’and in spite of the ct-
forts of the employee of the company
sunk to the bottom of the river.
It was announced by the officials of
‘ the Bishop &. Lynes company this
morning that imm diate efforts would
be made _by the co pany to raise the
barge.
, The coal on the barge was part of
the allotment for this city. and is
greatly needed because of the shortage
in this city.

; Club Annual Meet
. The annual meeting of the Norwalk
Country Club will be held at the club
house on Saturday evening of this
week. Feb‘ruaryfitth. at 8 o'clock. for.
the purpose of electing officers: re-
. ceiving the annual reports and trans-
acting the usual business.
The report of Lawrence K. Paul,
sccrctary, shows the present member-
ship to be 470. including resident.
non-resident and bachelor members.
During the yea!- 28 were admitted.
and three transferred from the- non-
resident list; 17 resigned. 2 transfcrcd
to non-resident list. 2 died andilo
were. dropped from the actkve 'roll. In
_ the non-resident list five were admit-
ted. I transferred from the bachelor
list and 2 from the resident list. The
bachely roll was increased by the
. addition of six members, making this
120 at present.
The report of the treasurer showed
rcuipts of $16 437. 63 which included
$13,160 from dues, 8920 from ad-

$949.74 from other sources. The dis-

balance on hand of $112.52.
