Score Was 33 to 28, and Red
Men Separates Defeated
Wakeman Memorial Five.
In one of the hardest fought games
of the season. the Red Men Big Five
“'t nt down to defeat before the Fair-
field American Legion basketball team
last night by the score of 33-28. In the
preliminary game the Red Men Sop-
limits kept up their fine work of the
season and handed to “'akcman
Memorial team of Southport. a neat
trimming by the score of 21-13.
The main game was hard fought
from start to finish and it kept the
fans on edge throughout. It was either
tennis game up until almost the final
whistle blow. At the end of the first
half of the garlic the local team was
leading by the score of 15-12. In the
second half of the game the visitors
out scored the locals. During this
period of the garlic. they flashed a
line passing game which seemd to bat-

lion. and put up a nice game. He

Meeker was back in the game last
night and put up a good exhibition at
the pivot position against “lied"

guard of the local team. played a fine
iloor game. but failed to score. His
opponent also failed to make a point
during the game.
Iirntlll'riou was the leading scorer
for the li‘airlleld team. This player
made right iiehi goals and one foul for
a total 17 points. He was the out-
standing star of the Fairlield tcam.
Strauss also played a line game.
The Ill‘t'llllllnill‘y game was one 0f
the host that has been played on the
local court this season. It surely
brought out the fact that the Sep-
aratt's are one of the best teams in this
section of the state and that they
would make some of the so-called
sl‘nior teams step some to score a vic-
tm-y over them. Two weeks ago the
Memorials were defeated by the Red
Men Big Five by the score of 37-25.
last night the Separates defeated them
by a score that was nearly as bad. The
gnnm was hard fought from start to
finish.
Cavanaugh was the outstanding star
of the game. This ind was all over the
court last night, and completely baf-
fled the visitors with his speedy floor
work.’ 110 tossed in four field goals
and two foul goals for a total of ten
points. Jones also played a good game
at center against 'I‘oney Mills. holding
him to one basket. Russell was the
leading scorer for the visitors with six
points.
130th of the visiting teams last night
brought ovur a. large crowd of motors
with them, and one of the largest
crowds of the season was on hand to
witness the games. After the games
dancing was enjoyed. Music was fur-
nished by Schule's Jazzateers.

liards. May he reign for a long. long

I have known \Villic Iioppe for
years. He is the same Hoppc today
as ho was twenty years ago. when he
was first starting the billiard world as
the “boy wonder." Success has not
changed him in the least.

champions in the history of all sports.

match for the championship.
"It is impossible to describe just
what I mean by the breaks. There
are so many little things that can play
a detinlte part in the iinal result
whether they break for or against you.
Any fellow who has ever indulged in
any brand ot‘ sport will understand
just what I mean when I make refer-
ence to the important part the break
of the game plays."
While every champion in any
branch of sport sooner or later is de-
throned. the defeat of Hoppc by
