The Sahara Desert t‘rom Algeria to
Timbuctoo has Seen successtully
crossed by automobile. Until about a
week ago the journey was"considered
impossible except on the back of a
camel and. even then. no one came!
could make the entire trip. They
changed them at the relay stations
maintained at the oases which are
found, few and far between, along the
way.
The thing which was thought im-
possible has been achieved—and an-
other limit to huloan possibilities de-
strayed by an invention Which); few 'then band. are field in Europe.

There are a lot' of hoary traditions
which only need the application or a
new idea to sweep them away like"
cobwebs with a broom. Business
activity. for instance. is too spasmodic

The spectre of "‘dufl trade". stalks

the busy weeks before and 'up to the
holidays. Intelligent thinking will go
far to overcome it. We need to re-
membc'r that there is no less money
available in January than in Decem-
ber. Because tradition has held last
to the belie! that. it was' impossible to"
do big business until'well into the
New Year it may. perhaps. needinore
energetic and persistent 'eflort to
duce proper circulation ofithat money.
But a few months' reflection will con-
vince the most pessimistic that there
are Just as many people in Norwalk
new as there were a month ago who
all require clothes. tood and the other
necessaries ot exitence. and. incident-
ally. amusement.
The statistics from nearly every
section‘ indicate an excellent three
‘ months ahead of us. It is time} to
correct the welworn slogan of "1...
