father can not find his hat. After
Chaplin bolabors the pudding with

The father is wrathy and stamps out.

regains the wallet and returns it;
saying it. saying he found it on the
tiror. The pickpocket regains. it.
Chaplin réturns it by leading those
prcsent to believe him a sleight-of-
hand artist. taking the wallet away
from the pickpocket and restoring it
to the deacon.
That night the pickpocl-let rob- the
widow and Chaplin pursues him. The
sheriff in the meantime learns his
identity. When Chaplin returns with
the widow's money he is arrested. The
sheriff takes him to the Mexican bor-
der and_sends him into Mexico to pick
flowers. The sheriff rides away. ’but
Chaplin pursues .him. The .sherifl
sends him into Mexico again and'vas he
proclaims his thankfulncss for peace
and freedom. Meixcans start a gun
fight,“ Qlaplin runs Quick to the bor-
der line and straddling itrr'uii's out of
the picture.
