din's lamp. and behold. he held the
8315.000 securities in his hand. - The

Dr. Davis’ nephew, Roger Davis.
wished to have the securities of the
egtate. which were all in the form at
stock certificates, sent to the transfer
offices of the various corporations
and re-lssued to d‘lll heirs.
He wished to have_the transaction“
done through a. brokerage house. and
took the certificates to Richter & Co.
Woolley received the certigcdtes and
told the cashier .to put them in the
reserve securities ' lock box. That
much was ”remembured by all con-
cerned. but in a few days. when
search for the securities was made
they were nowhere to he found.
Inquiry from members of the firm
down to the errand” boy revealed no
trace of the securities. The firm sent
letters to each of its correspondents
to see whether by mistake a package
had been sent them. All to no anvil.
The firm was obliged to secure the
issuance 0f new securities and to bond
itself for twice the lame 6f the lost
securities. or $750,000. to reimburse
the corporations should the original
securities be presented for redemption.
The other day Mr. Woolley was in
Pulman & Co.'s office. The new cash-
ier remarked: "Mr. Woolley. there is
a package of papers belonging to “you

the next day. but the matter slipped
his mind.
