Edwin S. Thomas. of the U. 8. District
Court. has declared invalid’four speci-
nc search warrants which had been
issued and used in the seizure of
'qnantities of alleged scoholié liquorni
and ordered that the seized be
returned to their original owners.
The grounds on which the opinion
was based were. that seat-ch wan-ants
violated the fourth and fifth amend-
ments to the United States Constitu:
ion. in that the application-'1'!“ not
granted on a buts of known facts. but
were granted upon the stated belief of '
federal agents from information. It is
understood that this opinion will’besr
upon a large number of seizures of ii-
quors. .
The opinion was given in the cases
of four men who early in the fall were
charged with violation of the prohibi-
tion law. A motion was made for
these men for return of seized proper-
