Commimioner Meredith Says Outlook
15 Reassuring.
A. B. Méredlth, State commissioner
of education. stated yesterday that the
situation in Connecticut in regard to
. the supply of teachers for the public
schools is much better than it has
been. The outlook for the future was
reassuring with 1,100 persons attend-
ing the Normal schools of the State
this year. There were about; thirty
graduates of the Bridgeport Teacher's
Training school who had no yet ob—
tained positions. the reason b ng that
the training schoohin graduating sev—
enty-five. gavv diplomas to more than
Bridgeport was able to absorb. From
‘ .the reports which h'nd reached him.
Dr. Meredith thought there were
about thirty—five Normal school grad-
uates throughout the State without
schools. in addition to the thirty from
the Bridgeport Training school.

A mass mcctlng of all the boys in
the school “as held yesterday morn-
ing during thc Home Desk Period in
Room 28 The purpose of the meet-
ing was to form an Athletic Associa-
tinn and to got-11p some school spirit.

spirit and several cheers were given.
The first speaker of the. morning was
Thomas ircland. captain of the foot-
hnl team. Tommy gave a fine talk
cm school spirit. and asked that many
more candidates come out for the
team. lie told the students in plain
words that, the school spirit was awful.
and that 4 bus loads of Fair-field
routers numbering about 60 were
present at the game. while only 20
local students turned out to witness
the game. Mr. Clifford. the coac‘hflof
the team, then made a. few short re-
marks, continuing the subject of
school spirit. Ladue Whipple was the
next speaker. and he also urged that
all the boys in the school come out. for
the team. Mr. Clifford said he.
