Presently when he was doing this
he now a few blades pf grass move
over so little. He knew that they had
not been moved by one of the Merry
Little Brmes. for just th‘en none oi‘
the Merry Little Breezes were about.
Swiftly he jumpedybringing his little
black pun down on a spot just ahead
of where thou; blades of grass had
moved. They came down on some-
thing alive. A thrill of excitement
and pleasure swept over the young
Fox from the tip of his nose to the
tip of his tail. He had caught a
full grown Meadow Mouse! His
mot. or couldn’t hove done it better
herself.
He proudly carried that. Meadow

Then he began to think of Meadow

But hunting Meadow Mice was grout

hunt for mother and take it home
with him.
The next Meadow Mouse herdin-
covereti was too smart for him. But
a little later he caught two half-
grown Mice.
By this time he was tired and very
hot. He took the two ‘Mice in his
mouth and started for home. Never
wag there a prouderyoungFox than
he as he mado his way home. When
he got there no laid the two Mice
down on his doorstep and then lay
down beside them to gloat over them.
He ind taught them all by himself.
There had been no one-to help him.
He had hunted them as a Fox should
hunt. He felt strangely inde endent.
He was proud of himself.- ca. sir.
that young Fox was proud of himself.
But it was the right kind of pride. It
won the pride of independence. Only
one thing” was needed to make his
happiness complete: he did Wis that
his mother could see those two . ice,
and know that he wasn’t helpless
edén though she did forget him.
