IIELPFUL HINTS
\Vhen an engine knocks something
is wrong. Whenever there is a rattle
something is loose that ought to be
tightened.‘ It takes quite a little skill
to locate the different kinds of knocks
but practice makes perfect. By go-
ing over the engine carefully these
may be eliminated one by one.
Spark knock is due to spark being
advanced too far, particularly when
going uphill. The engine slows down
and the explosion comes before dead.

Overheating may be noted by steam
at the radiator.
Carbon knock is caused by red
