Anybody who supposed that the
adoption of the prohibition amend-
ment and the Volstead enforcement
law had take-n liquor out of politics
is in for a rude awakening. Liquor is
going to lu- very much in politics in
the fall campaign.
It is rcportcd that there are 34 anil—
prohibitiou organizations_ at work,
many of them national in scope. to
elect congressmen with wet leanings.
Home of them want. to go to the root
or the matter and get the dry amend-
and“: repealed. 'i‘hc majority. realizing
tho. difficulty of that process are con-

ihc present strict regulations.
Of the latter the “Rational Ameri-
can League" is typical. It is starting
a national campaign for the repeal of
the Volstcad act and m w legislation
redefining "intoxicating liquor" in
terms that would permit the manufacs
ture and sale of beer and wines of low
alcoholic content.
There will he a fight waged. per-
haps. in most 01' the congressional dis-
tricts and in most of the states where
there are senatorial elections this year.
It will he a light first of all within the
parties. for the nomination of “wet"
Vor "liberal" candidates. \Vliere the re-
sulting nominees stand on opposite.

will be carried through to election
day.
Liquor is nonpartisan.
