REASON AND REVELATION.
The question of evolution, raised re-
cently in New York and Kentucky
utter :1 long period of quiescence. is
still sizzling. Ministers are preaching
about it and people are arguing about
it. and Mr. Bryan is lecturing about
it to big audiences. And with all re-
spect to the good intentions of both
sides. it must be said that a great deal
of the argument seems to be entirely
aside from the mark.
Here. for example, is a statement
made by a minister in a. recent ser-
man:
“Undoubtedly we must be compelled
to choose between human reason and
divine revelation. It I am colnpelled
to choose. I would rather be a. God-
made man. out of God-made mud.
than a monkey-made man out of a
mammade monkey."
Now. it ought to be evident that
whatever may be our human. origin.
what we believe about it is not going
to change that origin. It is a question
