When the United States Treasury Building in Washington caught fire practically every fire en-
zine company in the district was called out to check the flames that for a time threatged the entire
building. Marines and- Secret Service men were stationed around the Treasury to guard the vaults
where nfillions- lay. While the direct cause of the fire is unknown it is believed to have been started

by a. workman's torch.
