en by its clerks, and the colors of Eng-

It is seldom that the Poles and the
Danzlgers agree on anything. and on
this account the League of Nations has
a. High Commissioner, General Hak-
ing, an English army officer, on the
ground to settle disputes when possi-

the Poles want too much and the Pol-
es say the Danzigers continually are
trying to give them the worst of it.

Moscow. But l'kminia, probably un-
der pressure of the intense Ukraine
nationalistic sentiment, holds that it is
quite independent or Moscow and as-
pires to support diplomatic negotia-
tions with European powers to obtain
recognition as an independent nation.
M. ltakmekr. the Rumanian Social-
ist. who is now president of the Uk-
I‘nnian Socialist Soviet republic, has
been able with Moscow's aid. to sup-
press all the. larger movements against
Russian domination of the Ukraine
but. nevertheless. the idea of complete
independence of Moscow seems to be
uppermost in the minds of
the little llUSSians, peasants,
merchants. laborers and professional
classes alike. '

In a much diluted form. M. Zlnovieif,
chairman of the executive committee
or the Third Internationale, and other
high priests of Marxism visit little
Russia occasionally and try to whip it
into line with the Third Internation-l
alee and the Moscow program. But
the Ukrainians still aspire for indec
pendence.
