be present. and wired that he was
with the gathering in spirit. Mr.
Knapp‘s presence was an added joy to
the occasion.
! There were no set speeches. After

ner. with occasional dances between
courses. the guests were called to at‘-
tention by the secretary. who read a.
number of friendly telegrams from
customers and otficials who could not;
be present. The absent ones each re-
lceived a. full measure of appl‘auseg’a‘s
their names Were read. John-Cava-
nagh. vice-president and general man-
ager of the C. 8: K. Company“ and
vice president of Dobbs 8.: Company,
iwas called on and. in a. clever little
speech congratulated the whole 5131!
on their splendid team work and ef-
ficiency during the past year. .whlch
had seen the names of C. d: K. and
Ivobbs advanced to the most, com-
lmanding position in the exclusive hat
trade all over the United States. He
spoke of the responsibilities involved
in continually keeping the highest
standards. which characterize the
Dobbs and C. & K. product. and of his
pride in the organization. which was
content with nothing less than _the
best. and showed such splendid re-
sourcefulness in creating new waysto
obtain it. He intimated that. the
coming year would bring interesting
news regarding a. new plant on the
site purchased in East Norwaik. for
which plans are practically complete.
Mr. Cavanagh closed with an affec-
tionate tribute to all who were carry-
ing on the C. 8.: K. spirit. His re-
marks met with enthusiastic applause.
New members of the club were intro-
duced and each responded with a two-
minutc speech.
R. A. Holmes. second vice-president
and salcs manager. found a quick road
to his hearers' attention with several
stories and then spoke. seriously on
the rccord of C. & K. and its future
possibilities. He pointed out that 1923
Iwould mark the 65th year of the com-
‘pany's life. and its splendid record
'dnring all of that time in honorably
performing every obligation devolving
upon an institution of the highest
character. This record finds its re-
ward in the choice sources of supply
open to C. 8.: K.. by reason of its large
purchasing power and known integ-
rity. as well as its wide avenues of dis-
]tributlon. through exclusive dealers.
who take pride in coupling with their
‘own names the brands of Dobbs and
C. & K. He spoke of the importance
of the new factory in meeting the in-
creasing demand for C. & K. products.
and expressed the conviction that the
sales. in a few months. would make it
an urgent necessity. "Let's build the
new factory." is the sales department
slogan. and they- will keep it busy.
Mr. liolmes’ sentiments received a.
very warm reception.
During the evening John Wehle ad-
ded to the enjoyment with a. number
of well-rendered vocal selections. in
several of which the guests joined in
