The Monday Evening Sociel Club
met last night in the American Le-
gion Hall. Mrs. Broadway presided
at the piano and the evening was most
enjoyably spent in dancing. The re-
freshment committee for the week

and Mr. Smith. The idea or refresh-
ments was a little, novel and won the
compliments of the entire class. A:
the close of the dancing period a. busi-
ness meeting was held. at which the

as to the advisability of having the
special music at every meeting it was
decided the best solution was to leave

Julius Hedrick. who to judge from
past experiences. is a handy man with
his fists. he having been air-nested
Somali three times previously
assault. was today sentenced to thin}
days in jail by Judge George H. Yo:-
burgh. for having administered a
black eye to his wife on Haviland
street about 10 o'clock last night.
Mrs. Rodrick reported the mull to
the police last night and Patrolman
Milton Lockwood made the arrest.
This morning Hedrick asked for an-
other chance. which however. in view
of his past remix-d. was not given him.
Judge Vosburgh saying that he was
opposed to giving him another chance
as it might mean a more serious as-
sault on his wife.
A quarrel arose on Headland street
last night between the two. when Mrs.
Hedrick wanted her husband to return
home with her. He refused and she
pulled him by the coat. He kicked
her several times bruising ner- badly
and then and: her in the right eye.

BECKER’S ATTORNEY DEAD
STAMFORD, Jan. 10.—Arthur C.
Palmer. aged 67. a prominent precu-
tloner at the New York Bu. died here,
lateuyesterdny of nervous breakdown
after a short illness. Among cases in
which he figured in recent years was
that of Police Lieutenant Becker, cou-
vlcted of murder. Mr. Palmer argued
the case before the Court of Appeals
and secured a new trial for the ac-

Mr. Palmer was born in Stamford.
