' Wife Breaks Law

 

 

LANSING, Mich. Oct. 4,——The
Michigan supreme court yesterday

laid down the rule that a husband is
master in‘ his own home and is guilty
of law violation if his wife, With his
knowledge, transacts illegal bUSineSE
in the home.

The decision was given in aflirming
a low 1- court, verdict convicting John
Sydisl of violating the probib‘ltion
law. Testimony was introduced at'the
trial to show his wife purchased a

the home and sold the liquor.

XVASHINGTON. Oct. 4.—-The size
of families in the United States is
steadily decreasing. the average num‘
ber of persons to a family in 1920
being 4.2. while in 1910 it, was 4.5; in
1900. 47: in 1390. 4.9; While in 1880
five people to a family were recorded.
the census bureau announced yester-
day.

The total population of the United
States in 1920 was 2,105,710.620. and
it was grouped into'24.351.476 fami-
lies residing in 20.697.004 dwellings.
The average number at persons to a
dwelling was 5.1 in 1920.
