isiana's inland waterways for the last
twenty years. and which. according to
Government observers, is now threat-
ening the fresh water portion of the
Panama Canal.
The water hyacinth appeared in
Louisiana immediately after the Cot-
ton Centennial exposition here in 1884.
The plant. which is a native of South
America. was exhibited at the fair and
