A good many persons who hear the
expression “rural slums" are disposed
to exclaim: "Who ever heard of
them?” Unfortunately the “rural
slums" though not describing conges-
tion of population, is a. phrase of real
meaning. as it applies to theE'poor of
the country districts. TbeFeiaexist all
over the country. in small villages or
on farms, families which have “run
out". Poverty, then squalor, over-
takes them. The .conditions under
which they live are often worse than
the conditions in the worst of the
city slums.
