Hopelessly outclassed from the out-
=set. New Canaan . was defeated last
night by the Norwalk quintet at the
Armory by the score of 49 to 24. The
Norwalk five played rings around the
visitors even though the latter did
have Frank Kelly, the famous Yale
football player in its lineup.
Kelly. as the result of the game.
last night. lost considerable popularity
with the local basketball fans. be-
cause of unwillingness to accept the
decisions of Referee S. Brotherton.
The glamour attached to his name be-
cause of his football ability wore off.
and several times during the game he
was handed the run by the fans.
To talk about and to describe the
game is a. hard task. Norwalk simply
waded in and so outplayed the New
Canaanites that before the forty min-
utes' of play was over. many of the
fans were yawning anddioping that
the final gong would ring.
Without any doubt the local team
showed a considerable improvement
in team work. As usual. “Big" George
Smith was here. there and every-
where. and captained the live with
skill born of long experience. “Spot"
Dalton. too. appeared in the lime-
light. “Spot" surely found the basket
and piled out six floor goals. all by
his lonesome. Brotherton. too. ap-
peared in good form and did his bit
toward piling up the tremendous
score.
Of the New Canaan team. little J..
Hogan. the seventeen-year wonder.
appeared to be the favorite. with his
ability. Hogan. a lithe. slim lad.
hardly more than :1 boy. demonstrat-
ed ability that speaks well for the fu-
ture. With a little more weight lio-
gnn will become one of the fastest
and best. players in this section. Frank
Kelly. when he was not arguing with
the referee. played 3. good game of
basketball. making six of the twenty-
four points. He was fast on his feet
and good at passing the ball.
, In the preliminary game the Hope
Hose five defeated the Starfish Giants
by the. score of 26 to 20. The game
was fairly close and both teams put
up a Stood light. inasmuch as the win-
nor of the. game was also the winner
of a. series of three games between the
two teams.
Mason starred for the Hope Hose.
showing a big improvement in his
playing. His eye was good and he
sure worked the black spot when it
came to getting baskets. Cavanazh
played a good game for the Stamib
Giants.
Next week Norwalk plays the Deaf
Mules. of how York city. The pre-
liminary game will be between the
Pink C.iy girls and the Yale J: Towns
