that. Wilbur met. his death as the re-
sult of an accident. but that the death
was not due to any criminal omission
or act on the part of either Harry V:
Snead. driver of one car. or Mrs.
Delia M. Hart of Stamford, driver of
the other car. that crashed together.

Mrs. Lizzie Brotherton had been at
the rooms all afternoon doing sewing
on a quilt and were in readiness to
prepare their supper and were so do-
ing. Mrs. Merriam complained of
being ill and went too. window open-
ing it and sitting beside it. The other
women noticed a. queer smell in the
rooms but thought nothing of it, Ml‘l.
Lizzie Brotherton who came in later
said that she noticing something in
the all; made her eyes smart also went
to the window. Supper was about to
be served when Mrs. Merriam faint-
ed. Mrs. Barker ran to the street to
call Mr. Merriam. who is employed
at Krieger’s store. and as she was
crossing the street fell in a heap at
the feet of Floyd Coffin. who happen-
ed to be passing.

She explained that she had been
tak‘en ill and that the other women
were also ill. Mr. Coffin summoned
Mr. Merriam who ran to the rooms
He noticed the smell of gas. turned
off the jets and opened all windows.
As soon as medical aid was summon-
ed, Mr. Coffin. William Miller and
Stanley Talmadge rushed to Mrs Mer-
riam' s aid and look th'e'o'tm women
out into the ‘air. None of them nave
Mrs. Lizzie Brotherton. who was the
