the additional grand jury in connec-
tion with its investigation of alleged
city corruption. were closeted for an
hour this morning with former Gov-
ernor \Vhitman. conducting the in-
quiry. but left thé Criminal Courts
Building without going before the jur-

The two city officials had been sub-
poenaed because of their alle‘ged refus-
al to place municipal detectives at the

authorities of lntereét bearing "hous-
ing bonds" which are in some locali—
ties a fairly popular investment.
In the north of England. concrete
houses have been popular: as much-
inery largely replaces man-power in
their erection. In some parts of Lon-
don. to. such houses have been built
recently. owing to the shortage of
bricks. the high rate of .wages and
other difficulties.
