any eats at all. There were thirty
pens. including White and Bull Rocks.
W'hite and Black Leghorns. that laid
seven eggs each or less, whereas the
four best pens for the week laid 33
eggs or more. Thus it can be seen
that a pen that climbs rather rapidly
when it is able to yield five times as
many eggs in a single week as cer-
tain other pens with which it is com-
peting. "’

Two Connecticut pens of “’yandoties
owned by Harry D. Emnions of Fly-
mouth and Merrythought Faun of
Columbia. were in fourth and fifth
places with yields of 33 and 31 eggs
respectively. The total production
for all pens was 1404 9:23 or a yield
of a little more than 20 per cent.
The laying contest plant at the col-
lege will be an unusually busy place
for the last three or {our days in Oc-
tober. During this time all the birds
in the present competion will be re-
shlppod to their owners. This means
expressing one thousand hens in thir-
teen different states and three or the
Canadian provinces. Several pool
will travel as far west as Orezon and
“’ashlngton. Meanwhile another
thousand birds will be coming in
from all sections of the country to
participate in the tenth annual laying
contest which begins November first.
