be a bumper hay crop this year. and
that the farmers will be have an abun-
dant supply tor feeding their cattle
grain and other kinds of food for cat-
tle. which command prices that make

pastures to a degree that has redleed
the cost of maintaining cattle during,
the spring as compared with other
seasons.
Commissioner Whittlesey said that
contrary to expectations there is con—
siderable tillage in Connecticut this
year. in the early part of the yeal‘;

which created the impression that
farmers intended to reduce their cul-
tivated acreage to an extent that wouldJ
make Connecticut’s contribution to the
food supply of the State almost nes-
ligible.
Secretary Leonard H. Henley of the
State Board of Agriculture, who some

ers would do less cultivating this year
than heretofore owing. to the short-
age of labor and the high price which
it commanded, has stated within the
past few days than he had expected

eastern part of the State. and the la-
bor troubles in the Naazgatuck valley,
