suit brought by King George of Great
Britain against Ernest Hurrah. a str’el
broker, to recover 3175.000 for alleged
breach of contract was begun today
Supreme court. It is asserted in a
complaint in which the plaintiff is
described as “his majesty. the king of
the United Kingdom of Great Britain
and Ireland and of the British domin-
ions beyond the seas, emperor of In-
dia," that Harrah refused to send all
of 25,000 tons of scrap steel to King
George under a contract of Feb. 19,
1917, at $28.50 a. ton.

Board of Education has elected Al-
bert B. Meredith to. be its secretary at
a salary of $5,000, at a meeting at the
Capitol. Mr. Meredith will take office
luly 1, retiring June 30 as Assistant
Commissioner of New Jersey.
He will succeed Charles D. Hine,
"etired. Mr. Meredith was recom-
mended to the Board by ex-Governor
lunyon, and by Commissioner of Edu-
‘ation Kendall, of New Jersey. He
"as born in Vermont, graduated from
1Vesileyan University, did graduate
work at Harvard University and lec-
tured there. He .is about 45 years old.

He as charged with assault and bat-
tery. In the Norwalk court, this morn-
ing, the evidence furnished by both
parties and by the wife and mother-
in-law of Hope, and by Mr. Jarvis, in-
dicated that both families have had
trouble before. They seemed to have
been closely associated in family mat.—
ters and, due to some little incident,
an impromptu fight started in which
Mrs. Jarvis claimed to have been kick-
ed by Hope, and offered to show the
black and. hide mark on her lower
limb, although not in the court. room.
This kick Was denied by the defend-
ant ,and by his Wife and mother-ln—law,
who also counterclaimed that Mrs.
Jarvis used her feet .in the melee, but
this was denied by Mrs. Jarvis.
The cauSe of all the trouble seemed
to center around the fact that the fam-
ilies are inclined to mix in each other’s
affairs too closely, and Judge Candee
recommended that the families separ-
ate and not live in the same house.
The trial was continued until Satur-
day morning, May 29, when the ac-
tions of both parties in the meantime
will be reflewed. ‘

in the offices of Attorneys Light a Light, this morning, whereby the
City Hotel and Music Hall blocks, fronting on South Main street
from Haviland street tothe Clifl‘ord Hotel, were purchased by Judge
John Keogh and Robert Joselovsky from the Burr Knapp estate and
The purchase price is said to have been about $100,000. The new
owners plan to spehd considerable money later, improving the ap-
pearance of both black. New store fronts will be constructed, and ex—
tensive interior renovations made.
At the present time the following stores are housed in the blocks:
