My dmLit-tle Boys
and Girls:
I am here at last. My, but it seems a
'long time since I have seen all- of you! And
there are many that I have never seem-«of course I- want:
to see them, too.‘ I have so many things for you,to see
this time that I hardly know where to begin. Thin
that are so interesting that I am afraid~ your eyes will
amost pop right out of your heads. Therefore, when
you come, if you feel your eyes getting big and'round, just
you hang on_ to them, because I want you to keep them
so you can see everything. '
Some say. I’ came by aeroplane, but that is not so.
My reindeer-s would feel terrible if I' gave them up after
all these years. Then, besides, I couldn’t put bells on an
aeroplane, the motor would make so much noise you could
not hear the bells jingle; and it’s the jingling bells that
make me feel merry. and that is the sound you~listenc fior
Christmas night when I crack my whip and‘ dash over
the houseto 5.
Why, could not hitch n’a’y aero lane to the chimney
-;while I was filling your stockings. esides. I would'walte
:‘Everybody up. With my reindeers I just say: “th011!”
and they stop right beside the chimney and keep as still
as mice while I hurry down the chimney and fill you: ,
stockings while you sleep. You see, I do not want to‘
walce you up, for the best part of Christmas is the early-
morning surprise. '
But I must tell you about the bigplace ontheSeventh
Floor where I have assembled all my toys. .
J'ust so you can go around and see them all I have

because the roofs of the little shopsare bright red and
everything is so merry and-full of life;
I am going to walk down my street in Brittany and _
tell you about it as I go along. ‘ "
First. is the little shop called the Sign of the Silver
Steed. Here you will see all sorts of wooden toys. Some are
comical and I cannot look at them without smiling. I
made them to make you smile. A smile makes a glad heart
and I want all little boys and girls to have glad hearts.
Next. we come to the litte Shop of Le 1 d’Ot, 35/ ,
the little French children say in Brittany, when t " meal;
the Golden Rooster. Here you ,willsfind little musmal‘in;
stg’uments and sets 0: toys, fianos, hornrg"; drums-Tami

The next little shop is the Sign of the Javial utin'ping
Jack Here you will find lots of toys, from the umping
Jack (just lilic the one I brought your father when he
was a little boy) to many kinds 0 toy you will like.
Right in front of'this little shop stand two little Elephants
that guard the entrance to Llother Goose Hall—but I’ll
tell you about them later.
Now we pass the old: Dutch Mill, put there to make
the street bright and pretty.
The next little shop is the Sign of the Little Boy irr
Khaki. Here you will find soldiers and sailors represent.
ing each branch of the Army and Navy, cannons and guns,
etc.; but only boys will be interested in this shop.
The next little shop is at the Sign ,of the Jollyhlus.
keteers. There are so many toys here that I cannot begin
to tell you all about them.
The next is tlzc Sign of the Light House, where you
will find the ships, yachts, battleships, submarines, etc.
When you come. look up and see the light flash that tells
the sailors which way to steer the boat.
'7 Now we come to- the little Railway Station of Toi.
ViiHe, with railway tracks. signals, towers and electric
trains of all kinds. The engines are busy all the time. «
Nc‘xt is the little shop. the Sign of the Pine Tree: I
just had to have this because it reminds me of m’y‘home.‘
And here you will find lots of toys. ~ Some are new and
someI have been making for years.
Right in front of this little shopis the model Nursery;
then comes the Menagerie filled with animals that do not
fight or bite-tigers, lions, elephants, dogs, monkeys,
bears, etc. They are all in-oagcs. Don’t .tcas.e_them‘.
Don’t feed them. ,
Then comes Peter Newell‘s Toy Shop, where you will
see men making toys for me—funny toys that do all sorts
of things, and Peter will be there, too.
Now we will’go’ back to the entrance to 'hlother Goose
Hall. ' ‘
hlctlzer Goose Hall is filled with dolls of every kind
‘—-litth and big, dressed and undressed, comical and
quaint. Oh, ever so many dolls! I could not count
them. Each one has a wistful look. They want some
little girl to take care of them. Then there are toys from
France that walk and dance and also little hiasic'Boies
that lay while a Dolly rocks her baby to sleep.
n Mother Goose Hall you’ll see a large painting of ,
Alother Goose riding one of her large geese, also one of
the OldNVoman \Vho Lived in the Shoe, jack the Giant- '
killer, the Cow That Jumped Over the bloom, Ride a
Cockhorsc to Banbury Cross and the Story of the Three
Bears. - ‘.
On the stage is the Good‘ShipfSt. Nicholas. I am
going to make several trips each day to Happyland and '
I want ybu to come and go with me. We will have a
jolly time as we sail along over the make—believe Blue
Sea, and I will tell you stories about my remdeers and
Toyland and the little gnomes that work for me.
Of course, your mother will bring you. Father takes
you to the circus, so hiother willbring- you to see me. Get

will make him a boy again, and if you watch him you will

days gone by when he was a little boy and got up bright

peeked into the room to see what was in his stocking;
and I ant-sure that he was so happy that he began to
dance with joy, especially if he gotta pair ,_
