Idoliztd world war veterans of Norwalk and Wilton; they who
fought gallantly through unspeakable horror of trench and field and
forest; they who braked the treacherous waters of the deep, with an
unseen menace lurking (to strike and slay beneath every wave, and
those who bare uncomplairfingly in training camps with the monot-
onous drudgery of skilling others in the cunning to successfully com.
bat the enemy, marched yesterday and received the unsurpassed
homage of the greatest number of people that had ever befode gath-
ered on the streets of the city at one time. It was more than a mere ‘
holiday. It was a joyous festival of thanksgiving and praise.
Taking half an hour to pass a given spot, the parade was the
most picturesque and awe-inspiring ever seen in this vicinity. Sold-
ichy in bearing, smart in their Uniforms and marching with a sol-
emn air of military precision, the 'service men excited unbounded
and apontaneous admiration. Both in platocn front and in columns
of squads, both of which formations were used in the march, they
paraded with the. snreJooted swing of old-timers, reminiscent of
weary hour-aspent on the drill field. .
Horns tooted, whirling rackets ”reached-hands were clapped
vigorously and the voices of a proud and happy people were raised
m a very wf commendation as the men marched between,
throngs of admiring people. i

Spanish War Veterans, with their col-
ors. Captain John Keogh; marshal.
In memory of the service dead, a
