governor that he call the Legislature
together was the Connecticut branch
of the National Women's party. head-
ed by Mrs. Katharine Houghton Hep-
burn. and known as the militant side.
lt was the Connecticut Woman Suf-
frage Association which divorced the
other party for its mllitancy. that put
while the Connecticut Association Op-
posed to Woman Suffrage. headed by
Mrs. Daniel A. Markham, and an or—'
the protests referred to by the gov-
ernor.
In view of the fact that staterm nts
issued by the Connecticut and cation-1
a1 headquarters of suffragists have
claimed Connecticut as one of the
thirty-six states required for ratifi-
cation. it is believed that Governor
Holcomb' a decision will be considered
a serious blow to their plans. Mrs.
Carrie Chapman Cattf‘of the natioual
association, bad wired the governor
of Illinois that the Governor of Con-i
necticut would call a special session.
l The recent session of the Connecti-
cut Legislature indefinitely postponed
a proposed suffrage amendment to
the State Constitution and rejected
a bill for Presidential sudrsge for
women.
