off the Jersey coast, Sunday night.

Travis, an cmploye of the Stamford
National Bank since Dec. 1. 1006. and
its cashier since Feb. 5. 1917, is today
out of the bank as a result of his failv
ure to follow instructions given him by
he president of the batik. Schuyler
Merritt. in the matter of making loans
to the Sykes Motor Sales Company. of
which he is a member.
Rumor to this effect has been in cir-
culation for some time. and. as is us-
ual with such cases. the rumor made
the case a. great deal worse than it
really is. A careful examination of
the bank's books reveal that Mr. Tra-
vis' only irregularity was in making
these unauthorized loans to a business
