NEW YORK. March 20.——Martln J.
Sheridan. one of the greatest athletes
this country has ever known died last
night at St. Vincent's Hospital of an
attack of pleura-pneumonia. Taken ill
a little more than a week alto. his con
dition quickly became critical. and he
was in a precarious state ’for several
days before' his- death. Sheridan was
36 years old. having been born in Bo-
hola, County Mayo, ll-slnnd, in Mny.

Sheridan was one of the greatest
figures that ever represented thio
countryln international sport, as well
the weight events. l .was in 1004 that
he won the nationl championship,
with the sixteen—pound shot. Sheridan
[was the national title holder with the
discus in 1904. l907. 1908 and 19“.
